The American Management Association did a recent survey to discover what sales tactics turn people off and ruin a deal.
After getting 1,100 responses here’s the top 9 things sales people do that people find most annoying:
- Being too pushy (24%)
- Not taking “no” for an answer (23%)
- Not listening (18%)
- Talking too much (9%)
- Bait and switch (8%)
- Reading from a script (7%)
- Using meaningless sales jargon (or terms) (5%)
- Upselling (4%)
- Being impatient (2%)
Salespeople should avoid all of these, but the clear turnoffs are being too pushy, not taking “no” for an answer, and not listening.
