Etsy’s Mobile Direct Checkout – What You Need To Know

If you are monitoring your Etsy shop stats, you’ve probably seen that there are plenty of shop visits
coming from mobile app users.

Etsy’s Mobile Direct Checkout – What You Need To KnowJust last week, Etsy added Google Wallet to the Direct Checkout platform, with Apple Pay integration soon to follow. Shoppers in the United States can use Google Wallet on Android devices or Apple Pay on iOS devices to buy products from your shop. Now, it is easier for Etsy shoppers to purchase while browsing on their mobile devices.

What Are Its Benefits To Sellers?

If you are a US and non-US seller, you can benefit from the addition of these popular mobile payment methods. If you’re a seller based outside the US with Direct Checkout and you accept orders from US buyers, those shoppers now have more payment options.

How To Accept Google Wallet and Apple Pay In Your Shop?

If you currently accept Direct Checkout, you’re automatically eligible to receive payments from US buyers using Apple Pay or Google Wallet. These payments will be displayed in your Shop Payment Account just as credit card payments are. On your receipt, they’ll appear as Paid via Direct Checkout.

How About The Processing Fee?

If you have sales made through Google Wallet and Apple Pay, you will receive the same payment processing fee as any other order paid through Direct Checkout. However, Etsy’s processing fees vary by country.

If you don’t currently accept Direct Checkout, it would be nice if you turn it on so you can reach a larger base of potential buyers. In addition to these mobile payment methods, you’ll be able to accept credit and debit card payments, Etsy Gift Cards and Euro-specific local payment methods. However, there are some countries where Direct Checkout is not yet available, but don’t worry, Etsy is looking to expand the platform to more countries in the future.

How Can Shoppers Pay Using Apple Pay Or Google Wallet?

Buyers can pay for items using Apple Pay or Google Wallet only in shops that accept Direct Checkout. When the Apple Pay integration was launched, shoppers in the US using iPhone 6, 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 will see the option to pay for their items with Apple Pay when checking out on the Buy on Etsy app.

US shoppers using Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or a newer system will see the option to pay for items using Google Wallet on the App. Etsydo not currently support Google Wallet payments for iOS buyers.

In addition, if you’re accepting Direct Checkout, you’re automatically accepting Apple Pay. The only way to ensure that you don’t receive payments from buyers using Apple Pay would be to turn off Direct Checkout entirely. Keep in mind that Etsy has security measures in place to reduce risk and manage any suspicious activity that may occur with payments made through Direct Checkout.

There you have it. So have you tried this new mobile payment method? Have you received a payment from it recently? What are your thoughts about it? Please let us know in the comment box below.
