What do you think about your Etsy’s “About Page”? Do you think you’re doing it right?
Your about page allows you potential customers to see who they’re buying from. Maybe your work has been recognized in some way. Or maybe you studied your craft at the most prestigious school around. If so, you want to make sure that everyone who visits your shop knows about it!
Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your Etsy Shop’s About Page:
Start With A Hello
If you own a physical store, you’d certainly greet customers as they entered your store. Do the same for folks visiting your Etsy shop. While you’re at it, thank them for stopping by. It’s just good manners.
Your Store’s History
The best About pages feature a memorable story that describes how the shop owner got started. People need to connect the product and the story with the person who made it otherwise, it’s just this cyber land of “Where does it come from?”.
Beautiful Photos
You have the ability to add up to 5 images in your About Page slider… use all five. High-quality images are another key to great About pages. This is your chance to give customers a behind-the-scenes look at your Etsy store, so include images of yourself practicing your craft in your workspace. If you’re hoping to attract press coverage, be sure to upload five professional-level, high-resolution photos (those measuring at least 1,400 pixels wide). This shows you’ll be ready with the good stuff if the press comes a-knocking.
Your Story
Use as few words as possible, but tell the story — It’s worth spending some time on a few drafts in order to cull your copy down and remove the extra words. There are always extra words. But don’t cut so much that you’re taking away from your story.
Be sure to cover things like:
- Who are you?
- Why did you open an Etsy shop?
- Where is your small business located?
- What one word describes your workspace?
- Handmade: How do you decide on what supplies to use?
- Vintage: What elements do you consider when you’re on the hunt?
- Who helps you with your Etsy shop?
- What is unique about your brand?
- What is special about your customer service?
- Who or what inspires you?
- What’s your educational and/or artistic background?
- What do you enjoy most about making the things you sell?
- What are you passionate about?
Other Options
Etsy gives you up to three links out to social media and your blog… use them! Etsy also gives you the opportunity to share a short bio for each person on your team… use it! Don’t be afraid to tweak it. You can modify your about page as often as you like so don’t be afraid to go back and improve, change, and edit as time goes on.
